June 16 - 20: World of Art Series ~ Symbolism of Aboriginal Art
In this camp we will learn about contemporary Aboriginal Art
Aboriginals are native people who have lived in Australia for the past 50,000 years - the oldest living culture in the world.
Aboriginal people have used dots in art and other form of expression throughout time. Dots painting can be used in symbolic patterns on rocks, sand painting and in body paintings for ceremonies.
In this studying of Aboriginal art, we will be recreating patterns and symbols seen in this ancient style, even using natural materials such as charcoal and chalk. We will learn about Dreamtime Myths through drawings and paintings.
Our young artists will learn about these Aboriginal art techniques as we explore how natural materials have been used in art for thousands of years.
